MY MUSIC STORY
When I first heard Märchenbilder Op. 113 tailored by Schumann for the viola and the piano, I was captivated by the delicate sound of the viola. Therefore, although I was originally a violinist, I decided to start playing the viola myself.
The process of preparing for the performance made me realize the distinct tonal qualities of the viola, an instrument that is rarely featured as a solo instrument.
The gentle mood of the piece contrasts with the splendor of the viola which creates depth and helps the audience experience the vision of fantasy which Schumann wished to illuminate. I made sure that I was able to attach myself to the piece emotionally which I believe I showcased during the performance.
